Since 2008, Yeng Constantino has steadily established herself as a prime musical act. Her introduction came via being the Grand Star Dreamer of the hit reality TV show Pinoy Dream Academy. She immediately proved herself further with a solid debut album in “Salamat” that highlighted among others, her considerable songwriting skills that resulted in a multi-platinum record selling turn for Yeng’s first shot at a music career. As if that wasn’t enough, the singer duplicated the same success with her sophomore set “Journey” which garnered a gold record award for the newly crowned “Pop Rock Princess of the Philippines”. Followed by a regular stint on ASAP plus shows here and abroad.
Fast forward to the early part of 2011, Yeng had bang-up start of the year by garnering five major awards at the MYX Music Awards. This included Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Music Video and Favorite Song all for one of her masterpieces “Jeepney Love Story” from her third solo album “Lapit” (the same album that won Album Of The Year in 2010’s Star Awards For Music). Also Favorite Collaboration for the song “Kung Wala Ka Na” with Tutti Caringal of 6 Cycle Mind and Kean Cipriano of Calla Lily plus a bonus and unexpected award Favorite MYX Celebrity VJ. This record winning haul for Yeng just proves that the singer’s music is on to bigger and better things as it progresses.
So it is in this that Yeng puts her career into full throttle with a number of major moves to define 2011 as her banner year. First up of course is a major solo concert entitled “Rak en Rol Jamming With Yeng Constantino” which will be staged at the Aliw Theatre on August 5, 2011. Joining Yeng are guests MU Live co-host Tutti Caringal, Gloc 9, the producer of her “Lapit” album and one of Yeng’s musical inspirations Raimund Marasigan and a good friend, the country’s Rockoustic Heartthrob Sam Milby. Watch out also for more surprise guests in an unexpected production numbers. Yeng proudly admits that she has been devoting a lot of hours and hands on work for the production and preparation for the concert.
Coinciding with her upcoming second major concert is a new live album release entitled “Yeng Versions Live” which is now out in stores nationwide produced and exclusively distributed by Star Records. Shot and filmed in Teatrino Greenhills, the set features Yeng’s rocking performances of her Pinoy songwriter idols and influences Eraserheads, Apo Hiking Society, Florante, Blue Jeans, Yano hits and more. With one of the leading and most respected names in the music scene Jack Rufo as the musical director, backed up by his amazing band. A lot is certainly going on in Yeng Constantino’s career. But as she continuously proves, she is up to the task and always ready for the challenge. Now anyone would indeed say that Yeng is on a roll.
