After seven years of hiatus, Missy Elliott make a comeback this week, she was asked to weigh in on many issues including the ongoing rift between Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj.
“I felt like that situation divided us,” Missy told Sway Calloway in an interview with MTV’s “RapFix Live.”
While she’s never met Nicki, she still has respect for her. “She’s out there hustling, can’t be mad at that.”
On Lil’ Kim: “Lil’ Kim is my sister. I’ve known her for years and I never turn my back on her,” said Missy.
She want her fellow females band reunited. “There’s enough room for everybody. I wanna see everybody get it. I love to see women just have on their own. You watch the guys do it all the time. They go out on the road with each other, probably don’t like each other. Go on and get that money.”
She hopes the two can move past their issues and at least respect one another. “You don’t have to like somebody—just respect,” she added. “Once we get that, everybody I think will be great. I wish I could wave some kind of wand and make it happen, but I also am not in that situation to make it happen, to say do this and do that. I haven’t been in that situation to know what that is.” she said.
Missy, who took part in the 1997 female anthem “Not Tonight” with Kim, Da Brat, Left Eye, and Angie Martinez, is even open to an all-girls tour. “I try to support everybody—past, present, and future. I love my peers. Lil’ Kim is my sister, Eve is my sister, Trina, Roxanne Shanté, Salt-N-Pepa, Queen Latifah, Monie Love…”
“Anybody that know me, know that I show love. We just gotta respect each other.” she added
